09. Grenada 1983 - Saturday, November 26th - Helicopter Ride

View From the Helicopter

This was the west coast of Grenada as seen from the helicopter on our flight North to Gouyave.  We sat in the doorway of the helicopter with our feet hanging out and nothing but a nylon strap strung across the doorway to keep us from falling out.  This gave us a wonderful view of the island. As we flew along we passed through a rainsquall.  I don't know how fast we were going, but the drops of rain felt like little pebbles or hail stones rather than rain drops as they hit my legs.

Grenada is not a large island, therefore the helicopter flight was not long.  Grenada is only 21 miles long and 12 wide with an area of about 211 square miles.  The island's highest point, Mount Saint Catherine (2756 ft) might just be shrouded in the clouds somewhere in the background.
